Respond to an NIH Summary Statement
After your grant is submitted and reviewed by a funding agency, you can expect to receive an official document with the outcome of their grant review. When applying to the NIH, this document is called a Summary Statement. It will include your overall impact score, strengths and weaknesses, areas of concern, and a recommended budget. Most summary statements also have a short synopsis based on peer reviewer critiques, prepared by a scientific review officer. When a proposal is not funded, it is important to assess whether proposal problems are repairable, and whether it’s in your best interest to resubmit your proposal in the next round. This section will cover strategies to successfully respond to an NIH summary statement.
