About eagle-i

The eagle-i National Network and eagle-i resource search at www.eagle-.net was retired on November 4, 2021.

eagle-i logoOver 12 years ago, the eagle-i network was started with a goal of connecting researchers to the biomedical research resources they need. In those years, we grew from 9 founding institutions to over 30, using cutting-edge, open-source software to make those connections. Understandably, technology and institutional standards have changed and we felt it prudent to retire the eagle-i software.

eagle-i made these invisible resources visible by allowing institutions and organizations to model biomedical resources on a linked open data platform and provide users with an interface to search and find resources in their own institution, and at participating institutions throughout the nation. By making previously undiscovered resources more visible, redundant resource creation was reduced, collaboration fostered, and research accelerated.

The platform was powered by an expansive ontology, and utilized an RDF database to triple store semantically robust data, adhering to linked open data principles. The eagle-i search interface leveraged semantic web technologies and provided users with multiple ways to search, filter, and sort data from multiple resource collections.

The eagle-i Network was first developed in 2010 by a consortium of nine universities with a grant from the NIH and the research resources of over 40 academic and not-for-profit research institutions were represented in eagle-i.

We would like to thank the many institutions that have collaborated, contributed data, or participated in the network, including:
