About ENACT
Research often begins with questions, inspired by data discovered through exploration. Without tools to explore large patient data sets and health conditions impacting patient populations, important questions may remain unanswered.
Evolve to Next-Gen Accrual to Clinical Trials (ENACT) is a national network that enables researchers to conduct research in real-time, by querying electronic health record data.
ENACT has connected more than 50 sites from across the country, giving researchers access to aggregate data of over 142 million patient health records while maintaining important standards of privacy and security.
ENACT is a CTSA-funded collaboration lead by the University of Pittsburgh with leadership from Harvard University, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and University of California San Diego.
Harvard Catalyst supports the ENACT network with software, infrastructure, and network operations. Engineering team members from Harvard Catalyst adapted the SHRINE platform to enable users to query the network and receive aggregate counts of patient health records. Harvard Catalyst staff provide technical support to the network members and maintain the central network infrastructure that makes the network possible.
