Do you know what career paths are possible in academia, industry, and government? You will be discovering how these paths differ in their definitions of success and expectations for job growth.
In order to be prepared for the next phase of your career, you need to think about what factors will set you up for future success: Where should you be spending your time? How can you prioritize opportunities? How do you juggle personal and professional interests and responsibilities?
An important component to enhancing your success is understanding the “ecosystem” of your institution and field: How can your institution help you to succeed? What is your institution’s culture? Who are the key people driving research in your field? Who is currently in your network?
In order to make the most out of your mentoring relationships, you first need to know about yourself: who you are, what you value, and how you work best.
To ensure the success of any mentoring relationship, both parties must understand their responsibilities and balance their personal values and expectations.
