Conference: Abortion Battles in Mexico and Beyond – The Role of Law and the Courts

This event brings two sitting justices on the Mexican Supreme Court, Justice Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena and Justice González Alcántara, to discuss the holdings, implications, and context for these recent decisions, as well the Court’s evolving role in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights, and in particular abortion.

To situate the discussion, two other panels will discuss challenges in institutional practices as well as laws in relation to advancing abortion rights in different countries in Latin America and the United States, and the role of courts in adjudicating highly contested social issues involving private morality that frequently give rise to political and legal counter-mobilization.

This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited and registration is required. Register now.
