This list outlines resources and contacts at Harvard-affiliated academic healthcare centers regarding the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy (DMSP). This list also includes important information on translation/interpreter services available.

Finding resources or point of contacts (POC) at an institution should not be a chore; we created this resource to provide this information in one easily accessible location.   • Interpretation is internal and translation is external.
  • BIDMC has a translated Spanish consent template and a guidance document for consenting limited english proficiency participants.
  • Research is also required to follow institutional policy and not use Google Translate or any other computer aided translational apps or devices.
  • Interpreter services conducts translation of the consent discussion in any language requested; they provide services for over 70 languages.
  • External vendors are used for translation of research documents. BIDMC has set vendors that are used for different languages.

  • Dual affiliated investigators go through their home institution services and this vendor is typically used for consents that are being added to secondary use studies at Broad.

Dana Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI)

  • Interpreter services are used for interpretation, and some translations. DFCI uses external services for other translations. DFCI has translated the biomedical consent template into Spanish. They also have their HIPAA authorization translated into eight languages, and short form consent forms translated into more than 30 languages.

  • Translation services are managed by each type of entity.  Researchers’ responsibilities are largely directed by the policies or practices in these entities. The IRB that Hebrew Senior Life uses is Advarra Review and researchers are also bound by Advarra regarding translations for research participants.
