“Tell me about yourself” is a classic opening question that sets the stage for the rest of the interview. This wheel shows information to communicate your story to highlight your research, interests, skills, goals, experiences, and accomplishments in an interview. The piece at the top of the wheel says, “Opening. Who you are, your academic training, what you do and your institutional affiliation.” The piece to the right of it says,”Interests & Impact.Your areas of interests/expertise and the impact of your research projects.” The bottom piece says, “Optional. If you think it can make your story more compelling, add a sentence about how you became interested in your area of work.” The piece to the left of it (left side of wheel) says, “Skills & Background. Relevant scientific/technical skills and background.” The middle of the wheel says, “Connecting & Closing. Why you are interested in this particular job/team/organization and what kinds of contributions you hope to make.”
