The problem is that research efforts tend to engage communities after studies have been designed, which makes it hard to change the studies to address community concerns. There is a need to find a source for high-quality community input on research as it is being developed. There is also a need to find trusted and trustworthy community partners who can share input about trials with their communities. The solution is to have a standing, trained community coalition provide feedback on research to increase equity and use of community-engaged research principles, and to have communication vehicles highlight responsive studies. Part of the solution is to have this co-led with community and a hospital partner and to start with COVID trials and expand over time.
