Lecture: Retrovirology Dinner Club Meeting
The Retrovirology dinner club meetings provide an informal setting for cutting edge talks from colleagues and interactions with other scientists.
Speakers:
Gabrielle Law, virology PhD student, Harvard University, will present on “Characterization of a novel remodeler function for HIV RT“. Law received her bachelor of science degree from Montana State University. As an undergraduate, she conducted research with Dr. Matthew Taylor studying Herpes Simplex Virus recombination during neuronal infections. She then went on to the Post-Baccalaureate Program at the National Institutes of Health where she joined Dr. Nadine Samara’s lab in the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. Here she researched the structure of bacterial glycosyltransferases using cryo-EM and x-ray crystallography. Returning to her love of viruses for her graduate work, Law is currently a PhD candidate in the virology program at Harvard University, joining Victoria D’Souza Lab and is investigating the molecular mechanisms of HIV reverse transcription initiation and regulation. Her mentor is Dr. Victoria D’Souza, a member of the HU CFAR Basic and Translational Steering Committee (BTS-SC).
Melanie Lancien, PhD, research fellow in medicine, Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard, will be presenting on “Immune correlates of viral rebound after broadly-neutralizing antibody treatment in children from Botswana.” Lancien earned her PhD in Nantes, France at the Center for Research in Transplantation and Translational Immunology (CR2TI). She has studied immunology with an emphasis on dendritic cells and antigen presentation. She has been working with Drs. Xu Yu and Mathias Lichterfeld at the Ragon Institute for three years on clinical trials, with HIV-1 reservoir and immunologic focuses. Her mentors are Xu Yu and Mathias Lichterfeld.
