Lecture: Engineering the Future of the Surgical Safety Checklist

Speaker: Mary Brindle, MD, MPH, director of Safe Surgery and Safe Systems at Ariadne Labs, Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is a pediatric surgeon, MacNeill Chair holder, and professor of surgery and community health sciences at University of Calgary as well as a visiting scientist at Harvard Chan. Additionally, she is the co-chair for guideline creation for the ERAS Society, and scientific director of the Surgery Strategic Clinical Network for the Province of Alberta. She currently leads international work to improve performance of hospital teams, to optimize the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, and advance the rigor and scope of international ERAS guidelines.

The Center for Surgery and Public Health in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital’s (MGH’s) Codman Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s (BIDMC’s) FIRST program, and Boston Children’s Hospital, showcases Health Services Research (HSR) experts from across the Harvard Campus and all over the country as part of the Harvard Surgical HSR Speaker Series.
