Grand Rounds: An Anatomical Basis for Electroacupuncture to Drive Anti-Inflammatory Neural Pathways

Until recently, the scientific basis behind acupuncture practice has been poorly understood. In this presentation Qiufu Ma, PhD, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, will share research undertaken since 2016 to map somatosensory-autonomic reflexes as an entry point to study how acupuncture can distantly modulate body physiology. He will share findings to date, including how electroacupuncture can drive certain autonomic pathways in a body region-dependent manner, where this acupoint specificity is due to the presence of sensory neurons that innervate specific fascia tissues.
