Douglas MacFadden is the chief informatics officer for Harvard Catalyst. He is charged with the development and implementation of informatics applications, networks, and platforms that accelerate translational research across Harvard Medical School (HMS) and its 16 affiliated hospitals. He works closely with faculty and investigators across the HMS community in order to identify aspects of the translational research process that could be transformed by the use of novel informatics systems. He leads a skilled team to develop and implement such informatics systems, including: SHRINE (allows investigators to query EHR data from a network of institutions), SMART IRB (facilitates investigators in achieving IRB reliance quickly), and eagle-I (enables investigators to find the resources necessary for their research). All three of these projects have subsequently been implemented at the national level.
