A five-day introductory course on the principles and methods of clinical investigation. Introduction to Clinical Investigation

Frequently Asked Questions

Please read the ICI frequently asked questions below before applying to confirm this course is right for you.

Q: How do I know if I should take this course?
A: This is a survey course designed for people who are looking for a broad overview of clinical/translational research. If you are looking for an introductory, working knowledge of the T1-T4 domains to help you determine the research area best suited to your career path, this is the course for you. If you have already determined your T pathway, but would like additional information about other translational research areas, you would also find this course valuable. If, however, you have determined your research pathway and are expecting in-depth information in your particular area, you should pursue other educational opportunities. Please explore our other Postgraduate Education offerings.
Q: Can I expect in-depth coverage of any of the T domains in C/T research?
A: No. This is a survey course designed to give you a broad overview of clinical/translational research across the T1-T4 spectrum. We believe course participants need a general understanding of each T domain in order to become informed C/T investigators. Other courses in our educational portfolio cover the specifics of individual T domains.
Q: Will this course offer the opportunity for interacting with my colleagues?
A: Yes. The intention of this course is to introduce to you the critical component of collaboration across clinical disciplines necessary for successful C/T research to occur. Consequently, ICI workshops are composed of participants across specialties in an effort to foster an environment for innovation, the cornerstone of C/T research.
Q: How much prep time should I allot for this course?
A: In order to achieve maximum benefit from course participation, you should complete required readings and workshop cases/exercises prior to the sessions to which they pertain. Please keep in mind that course days are busy and long, so consider finishing readings and assignments before the course begins. It is essential, however, that all workshop cases/exercises be completed on time, since your assigned group will be depending upon your contribution. Course materials will be made available electronically to participants 2 weeks prior to the start of the course to allow for adequate preparation.
Q: What if I can't attend all sessions?
A: Except for emergencies, we expect you to attend all sessions, arriving on time and staying until the day officially ends. Please keep in mind that much time, effort, and expense has gone into delivering a quality course at no cost to participants and, in return, your full attendance is required. Arriving late and leaving early is disruptive and disrespectful to other attendees and to our presenters. For those interested in receiving CME credit for this course, you must attend all sessions. Partial CME credit will not be given.
