The goal of the C/T Research Academy is to support, nurture, and grow the next generation of C/T investigators at Harvard Medical School so they may become highly competitive for careers in translational and patient-oriented research in academia, industry, and regulatory affairs. The program offers advanced training to early-career C/T researchers, with a focus on the core knowledge necessary to achieve success in one's domain of investigation.
Harvard Catalyst is committed to partnering with departments and divisions to provide education, core resources, project management, mentorship committees, grant training, and support for protected time. Completion of the first two years of training, which include a carefully structured didactic curriculum and a mentor-based research project, culminates in a Certificate in C/T Research from Harvard Catalyst. Highly qualified individuals will be offered additional support in years 3 and 4 to assist in their transition to independently-funded research.

Trainees must pursue mentor-based research projects at their home institutions. The program provides additional external mentoring to each trainee to help further his/her career and scientific development goals.
The C/T Research Academy is open to individuals who are developing careers in C/T investigation and who are beginning two years of protected time in their home training programs in C/T research. Physicians are expected to enter the program after concluding the majority of their clinical training so they can focus on the research portion of their training. Individuals holding PhDs are expected to have completed one year of post-doctoral fellowship. Each applicant is expected to commit 75 percent effort comprised of (1) a required/elective didactic component and (2) a mentor-based research project at his/her institution.
The C/T Research Academy is a two-year certificate didactic and research program that requires participation in a full-time four-week summer program*, a weekly longitudinal seminar, elective courses, mentor-based research, and an extensive array of Harvard Catalyst-funded resources. Select trainees who qualify from the initial group of participants will transition to years 3 and 4, and have the potential to receive partial salary support to assist them in the transitions from fellowship to HMS Instructor, and ultimately, to independence.
*After being accepted into the program, a participant may apply to the Harvard Catalyst Models of Disease Boot Camp or the Program in Clinical Effectiveness (PCE) at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health (applicants are responsible for their own applications and tuition costs for the PCE). If accepted into either of these summer programs, a participant may request a waiver from the C/T Research Academy mandatory summer requirement.
Application must include (1) CV in NIH biosketch format, (2) letter of recommendation from the department chair or division chief certifying salary support and protected time for the first two years, and (3) 250-500 word description of the planned research project with a description of why the particular research mentor was selected.
