Community-Based Participatory Research

CBPR Faculty Survey

In June 2008, a survey was conducted to understand the breadth of Harvard faculty and staff involved in CBPR activities as well as their CBPR skills and training needs. A short questionnaire of 20 questions was distributed among faculty and staff of Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and the responses were analyzed.

The survey showed that about 70% of the respondents had CBPR experience while many of those without the experience indicated interest in knowing about CBPR. Additionally, a great majority of the respondents indicated interest in joining a university-wide consortium of CBPR researchers. Although most of the respondents have some CBPR skills, they were particularly interested in learning about CBPR dissemination and funding opportunities. To view a PowerPoint presentation on the result of the survey you can open this link: CBPR Survey Findings. If you are a Harvard faculty or staff and are interested in taking this survey you can click this Survey Link. It would take just about 5-10 minutes.

A Harvard-wide CBPR consortium is under development. For additional information you can contact the Institute of Community Health at ICH E-mail. The Institute of Community Heath is a unique collaboration of Cambridge Health Alliance, Mount Auburn Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital. It is a research institute dedicated to health status improvement through facilitation and collaborative sponsorship of community-based research, assessment, dissemination and educational activities.
